I forgot to tell you the highlight of my summer this year, which was when I got 10 pounds of freshly picked blueberries. For free! This is how it came to be - my daughter has a friend whose mom is a friend of a certain nice lady who lives next to a blueberry farm that happened to be undergoing a bank foreclosure. Tons of blueberries were there, unpicked and unappreciated, basically just wasting away. So the nice lady invited her friends over, to go on a blueberry-picking adventure, and told ... continue reading...

Fiesta Friday #296
It’s October, aka my birthday month ? Is it too much to ask for a month-long celebration? Where everyday you’re treated to a nice quiet dinner, and maybe a small gift awaits you in the morning when you wake up? You don’t have to answer that ? That’s not what I really want to talk about anyway. I want to talk about this. I called the husband just before he left work if he could stop on the way home to get purple ornamental cabbage/kale plants. I asked for 3, to fill the 3 planters on our ... continue reading...

Hiya, fiesta-ing friends! I’ve been so busy this week, with life in general, that I haven’t had time to sit and think. Seriously! First my daughter was sick. Then my husband sprained his fingers. Thank goodness the husband’s hand was getting better and he was there to help shampoo the carpet. But I ... continue reading...

Wonderfully tart when you first bite into them (they wake my senses), but with a sweetness toward the end, they remind me of pie cherries, which I also love. The reason you’ve never heard of them is because they’re not sold anywhere. Eleagnus Umbelatta is considered an invasive species, and in some areas it may be against the ... continue reading...
Fiesta Friday #293

Yesterday I stopped by the grocery store on my way home from work and what did I see? Mums and pumpkins on sale. Well, that made me think of pumpkin bread. So I bought pumpkin purée. When I get home from work today, even if it's still blazing hot out there, I'll crank up the oven and bake me the pumpkin ... continue reading...
