I'm happy to report that our red-spotted butterfly caterpillar is alive and well. When I couldn't find it, I thought it had escaped the greenhouse or worse, died. But instead, it had moved to a neighboring plant. Then, it started acting in a very peculiar way, like curling itself into the most painful-looking position. I was sure it was in distress. Look what I found in the greenhouse, innocently feasting on my newly sprouting Tilia Cordata (littleleaf linden). My first instinct was to immediately remove and discard it outside the fence for the birds to find. I just can't stand looking at caterpillars! Luckily, I was able to calm myself. Enough to do a little research on it. It’s the end of week 2 of telecommuting and/or remote learning for New Jersey residents, the end of which is unpredictable.
