Fiesta Friday #102

Is anybody here an expert on html? Or css? Or php? Any of which I am totally clueless about?

I spent a good part of last weekend trying to figure out how to change the size of the thumbnails and hallelujah, after looking around for just the whole day, I found out how to do it!

See, all the thumbnails are now square, see… Better, I think. But what d’ya think?

Now if someone can just show me how to change the color of the font here, and reduce the size of the top bar, and make me a new header, I’ll be on cloud nine.

I want to revamp the entire FiestaFriday.net aka The Party Hall. I want this space to be uncluttered, yet full of information. I want it to be elegant-looking, yet fun and friendly. I want it to be authoritative, yet unstuffy.

I want it to be professional, you know what I mean? So that it can have more followers and therefore, more Fiesta Friday friends, and therefore more views for both you and me, and therefore, it’s a win-win situation!

So you should really help me…

Besides, it’s MLK’s birthday. You should do something nice for others in honor of this special day. Others in this case? Moi!

Just kidding, ok? I’ll figure it out on my own eventually. Maybe. In a year or two. Assuming I keep pursuing it.

But I do have something for you. This.

MLK quote

Feel free to grab and use it as you please. Happy MLK Day! Keep the dream alive!

Now I know a couple of people who will help me. My co-hosts, Elaine @ foodbod and Julie @ Hostess at Heart. Thank you, lovely ladies!

Time for Features!

Pink Champagne Cupcakes from Amanda @ The Chunky Chef

“How pretty are these cupcakes?! So perfectly pretty in pink! These would be absolutely awesome in any celebration. White chocolate chips, champagne frosting…just wonderful!” — Angie

Fideua (Catalan Pasta Paella) from Caroline @ Caroline’s Cooking

“I love Paella and I’ve always wanted to make it. But Caroline’s take with pasta sounds absolutely good to me – such a good twist on the classic Paella.” — Jhuls

Homemade Turmeric Pasta from Dini @ The Flavor Bender

“Is this just so awesome or what?! Turmeric in pasta, get outta town already! Now where is my pasta machine?” — Angie

Nam Prik Ong from Mollie @ The Frugal Hausfrau

“This sounds really GOOD! It just makes my mouth water reading the recipe. I wish I had tried this when I was at Lotus of Siam. But, no matter, here’s the recipe. Of course I’ll cut down on the chilis, probably. I’ll put in…uh…maybe…one, lol, but I’m sure it will still be flavorful!” — Angie

Fiesta Friday #102 is now open! Come and join the fun! If you’re new to Fiesta Friday, please read the guidelines.

Well said Angie!! It should be the question that we ask ourselves at least once in a while! We are so involved in “all about me” that we forget to think of others!

Speaking of revamping, I feel you. I always start to try to figure out how to fix my blog and then get so overwhelmed with all the technicalities that I finally leave with a headache! The best part is I have blogger and there aren’t many food bloggers who use that platform and therefore I have no one who can help me! A very good friend suggested that I move to WordPress. Anyways, if there is someone who can help me, I need help!!

Happy FF Angie! Great job with the thumbnails!

WordPress does make everything easy for you and you get instant connection with other WP bloggers! But it doesn’t allow you to put ads, unlike Blogger. I need constant reminders about service for others. My kids are ahead of me! XOXO

That is hilarious! When my son was home for Christmas I got the same story! He designs the electronics for planes but knows nothing about websites. I think that they are just smart Angie not to get involved. I’m learning, but it is a time suck! There is a plug in that you can run to regenerate thumbnails too. Happy FF!

    Hi Angie,

Wow. A lot of good looking stuff already this week. I’m totally surprised that no one has jumped on the bandwagon and hired themselves as your tech stylist/consultant for the FF blog. I have a love hate relationship with themes and formatting. I’m constantly dreaming and getting ideas of things I’d like to change and then I go down a rabbit hole with themes and custom formatting, and then I can’t execute properly, and then well it just gets worse and worse. I will say though that about a year or maybe more ago, a fellow blogger whom I met I think through Foodlander . . . we were both writing articles for them . . . she wanted some help in the form of a few questions and I wasn’t working at the time and just hopped onto her blog as an Administrator and gave her a makeover . . . but it was nothing as complex as Fiesta Friday blog I think. AND . . . she ended up totally changing stuff to suit her own personal tastes in the end . . . but at least I got the nuts and bolts down for her. Do you have a visual of what you’d like the blog to look like? Are there some blogs you know right away . . . THAT’s what I want to look like . . . . I’m pretty good at stylistic things but forget it when it comes to buttons and badges. I’ve found the best thing for me is to pay for customization (I think it’s like $35 for the year) and then jump on the WP support forums and within 1 or 2 days somebody will give you the code you need to write into your CSS so that things appear the way you want them to. Thanks for posting the quote from MLK. I am grateful this year to be working and yet also to have that day off work. So I can cook and post pictures of food. Just kidding. Ok, see you soon!

Wow, Sue, so you want to be our consultant? We’ll gladly hire you! Though mind you, our payments are in the forms of hugs and kisses, and the virtual kind, haha… I just want to clean things up around here, that’s all. I think I’m happy with the theme so far, just a few nagging things that bother me, colors, sizes, that sort of things. I can live with them, I suppose. I know enough now that I can manipulate a few things thru the child theme, but it’s slow since I have no knowledge of css language so it’s trial and error mostly. Right now I just want a new header. I know what I want, just need time to actually make it. Probably drawing is involved, unless I hire me an artist. Next I would love one of those slider things, but I need content first! Wanna be a guest blogger? 🙂

I don’t even have photoshop. Is it hard to learn? Seems so complicated. Maybe I should try it for a month. The thumbnails I’m referring to are the featured images. Previously they were all severely cropped into ridiculous dimensions, but now they’re square which I’m happy about. I actually had to go and change inside the editor. Scary! But successful in the end 🙂

Thank you thank you! And afraid I am no help on html etc – I have muddled my way learning as I go with my site so far but I suspect a lot depends on your theme etc from what I can work out (as I chose one that was relatively user-friendly and a fair bit pre-built as it were to make things a bit easier, at least most of the time!). Afraid need to tuck myself in soon but hope to mingle over the weekend!

You could have fooled me Angie, you seem to know what you’re doing and talking about. The pineapple is precious, as is your header. Everything looks tickety-boo. I too struggle with all this tech language. I want to change my theme, I’ve even used the customizer, but I’m so afraid I’ll mess something up, or won’t be able to add things I already have, so I just let it be. But believe me I try. I guess I can fool people pretty well 😀 I don’t know the first thing about website building! It’s all about learning as you go, which is fine with me, since at this point it’s all just for fun. Like a hobby kinda. And I actually like learning new stuff and being challenged, etc. Just don’t have a lot of time. It’s also ok to mess up, I think. I do it all the time! So, if you want to try out new themes, I’d say go for it. You can always change it back. 🙂

For me too its been definitely a lot of learning the last couple years. So the FF site is self-hosted now right? hi Angie
I am sorry I can’t help you at all with any tech stuff, I am just a happy user but I am sure no matter if you get help or not it will be just as fab as everything you do!
Another great party! I haven’t had enough time to mingle, I had a look around but not made as many comments as I would like to, time hasn’t been on my side the past couple of weeks. The weekend coming should be quiet and I can’t wait to have some quality Fiesta Friday time! Sometimes I do it on an empty stomach to make sure I work up an appetite feeding my foodie self! 🙂 xx

The person that keeps coming to my rescue! Since the upcoming weekend will be a quiet one for you, would you be able to co-host FF103 this Friday? Sonal has signed up to be the other co-host. Please let me know, would be great if you can! XOXO
