Fiesta Friday #142

I know what you’re thinking… You’re thinking… that Angie… she runs a fiesta, but she never brings anything…

Or maybe you’re thinking… that Angie… she has a food blog, but she never makes any food…

And to that I’d say… au contraire… I have been cooking. But it’s true I haven’t been sharing. Which is so bad!!

I have no excuse, other than laziness… and maybe aversion to recipe writing. I don’t mind so much the cooking, it’s the recipe writing!

For instance, I have recently revived Twinkle 2.0. Yup, my sourdough is back. And I’ve been making beautiful bread, if I do say so myself. Like this one.

pumpkin-walnut-sourdough-bread

But I find it so complicated to try to explain the how-tos. Too many steps and too much technique to impart.

I have a proposition… how about this… I supply the photos, and you write the recipes. Any takers?

Or maybe I should just do videos… If I knew how to do it…

Now, Features!

Spiced Apple Star Bread
from Julie @ Hostess at Heart

“Julie’s cake is an edible masterpiece! I couldn’t stop staring at it and wishing that I had the patience and talent to create such a delicious piece of art. Well done, Julie!” — Julianna

“Oh my… I’m speechless at what a piece of art this bread is… The apple and the spices just elevate the beauty of this bread.” — Zeba

Vegan Mushroom Buckwheat Shepherd’s Pie
from Nicole @ yumsome

“This pie looks absolutely delicious and it’s vegan and gluten-free! What a neat way to use buckwheat and mushrooms and showcase true comfort food.” — Zeba

Spooky Halloween Blackberry and Grape Punch
from Anjana @ Happy & Harried

“I was drawn to this punch for the gorgeous deep colours as well as the fun, spookiness of it. These are flavours that I would usually associate with pies and pastries, but it really works as a punch. I am thinking about how I would spike this one!” — Julianna

Salted Rice Malt Marinated Skate Cheek
from Petra @ Food Eat Love

“How creative is this dish…an amazing and adventurous recipe that I can’t wait to try. For those like me who have never tried skate cheeks before this is a great inspiration!” — Zeba

Thanks, Elaine! Twinkle 2.0 started out sluggish but I was able to bring her back to life, phew ?

This one is my favorite; it’s pumpkin and walnut, not too sour. I did jot down notes so maybe I’ll try writing that recipe ?

Tastes amazing! Slightly sweet and it gives that slight caramel-ly taste and smell to the bread!

I know what you mean on the writing the steps thing – what I often do is write the rest of the post, edit the photos and put in the ingredients in the recipe then leave it a day or two and come back to write up the recipe itself. For one, given I have done everything else I kind of feel obliged to then finish it after that, and also I find it helps coming to it fresh with only that left to do.

Sorry I missed last week, was all a bit busy and I didn’t want to drop links and run again. But what fantastic things I missed – those features look so good! And I love your bread too!

I’ll try doing what you do. My process is reversed usually. I do the cooking and photo taking, then try to write the post based on the photos while trying to remember what I did! Obviously it’s not working out for me. Great to see you this week, Caroline! Have a nice weekend! ?

Hi Angie! I totally understand the drag of writing down recipes. I cook pretty much every single day of the week and yet I find writing it out so difficult and too time consuming! I’ve thought about doing video too but watching other people on YouTube, my kitchen is definitely not up to par haha. Maybe one day…
Hope you have a fabulous weekend! Happy Fiesta Friday!

I originally followed, and have since adapted, the Tartine method. You know, that famous bakery in SF? The steps are daunting and take 2/3 days to complete! I doubt many people would be interested! We had a GREAT time with the boy!! I needed it, and I think he did, too ?

Your bread looks amazing, and I’m sure tastes as good. I agree that writing recipes can be the most difficult task, especially for things like sourdough loaves. I too have been using my trusty twinkle thanks to you and with great success. I still am unable to write down how I do it – if I stopped to measure and explain, I think I wouldn’t have the same amazing results. Maybe one day! Have a lovely weekend.

Thanks, Gerard!! I’m still learning though! Sometimes I get great loaves, other times not so much! Once I made something extraordinary! Better than Tartine bread! I’m not kidding; coz my MIL happened to visit and brought with her my fave Tartine walnut loaf. Guess what? Everybody wanted my bread! I wish I know what I did right, lol.
