Fiesta Friday #328

My sourdough is back.

sourdough boule | FiestaFriday.net

Not being able to find yeast forces me to revive my sourdough starter. It was sluggish at first. Then I read about pineapple juice. That’s the secret! Adding just a couple of tablespoons was enough to activate the dormant natural yeast in the starter.

Now I’m actually glad I couldn’t find yeast. This sourdough boule (the second one I made this week) is absolutely delicious!

Sliced, toasted, smeared with a little butter, it makes a great breakfast. Or lunch.

The process couldn’t be any simpler. Just flour, water, salt, freshly-fed sourdough starter, all mixed and then left alone to rise for several hours. That’s it, seriously. And then bake in a scorching hot oven, of course. Who needs yeast, honestly ?

Now, Features!

Fresh Strawberry Bread

Ultimate Steak Nachos

Easy Pastry Pizza

Boiled Crusted Potatoes

Cheesy Garlic Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Seafood Stew

Vegan Lentil Kibbe

Yay! It’s Fiesta time! Look at all those delicious features! Where to start! 🙂 I love your sourdough Angie but wait… in your whole house you only ate two in a week! I think I may have a bread monster in my house as I’m making one every other day! Looking forward to see what everyone is sharing this week! Happy Fiesta’ing. xxx

Oh, no, we also ate a couple of Cheesecake Factory brown baguettes! They’re on the skinny side, though. And then there are always bagels ALL THE TIME! We eat a lot of bread, I didn’t even realize until now. I think we need to stop with the carb overload ?

Thanks, Elaine! My sourdough master ? I’ve learned a lot from you about sourdough, and where to begin with Selma. She was the originator! Had it not been Selma’s generous gift of starter I wouldn’t have even started on the starter ?

It’s a wonderful vegan recipe! Now that it’s getting harder to get meat (certain cuts are impossible to find!) maybe we should turn to vegan/vegetarian options.

Angie, your sourdough is amazing! Flour has been in short supply here but I finally scored some bread flour and will be making sourdough focaccia this weekend. Happy Friday, let me know when you need my help.

I’m always up for a pizza, especially if it’s an easy version like your pastry one. Sounds and looks fabulous! Yeah, didn’t know about pineapple juice myself, but it worked. I used the fresh juice that collects on the bottom of cut-up pineapple, btw, not bottled. Not sure if that contributed to the success.

The strawberry bread and all the potato recipes look good! I didn’t know about the pineapple juice for sourdough. I will have to try that out. 🙂 Thanks for hosting! I brought by some Chili Lime Kale Chips. Hope you enjoy. 🙂

Apparently you can also use other types of juice; I even read about fermented raisins, but so far pineapple juice has worked for me. I used fresh, btw (whatever collects on the bottom of container of cut up pineapple). I used to make kale chips all the time, but haven’t tried chili lime flavor. Sounds delectable!

What a party!! It’s so nice isn’t it to come and see everyone is still doing their thing! It makes me feel at least one thing is “normal”.

See ya all next week, God willing! Stay safe!
