Fiesta Friday #318

The news regarding Covid-19 (coronavirus) worries me to a certain extent. Only a handful of cases are suspected in New Jersey, with just 2 confirmed so far, but I do have relatives who live in both California and Washington State, where the number of cases appears to be increasing daily.

In the meantime, my daughter’s senior trip to Florida is in a couple of weeks, and just a few days ago they reported 2 brand-new cases there.

I want to tell her not to go, but she would probably tell me I’m being silly and hysterical for no reason, and then she would still go anyway. So I won’t say anything.

I will keep my worries to myself at this time. I just hope this thing will go away soon. Though hoping, no matter how sincere, is not going to kill germs. I’m going to wipe and sterilize my whole house! And try not to touch my face with my hands. That’s going to be so hard. What’s a person to do in a situation like this?

My head is close to exploding, I can just feel. We should just fiesta, instead.

From last week’s fiesta

Irish Soda Bread Muffins from Meaghan @ 4 Sons ‘R’ Us

“Meaghan describes these as soda bread meets sweet, flaky buttermilk style muffins. What. Jaw drop. Two of my favorites combined! Dreams do come true.” — Angie

Olive Oil Cake with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting from Erin @ A Big Green House

“This cake is a showstopper!” — Mollie

Gluten-Free Eclairs from Kate @ Gluten Free Alchemist

“First off, I wouldn’t have thought eclairs could be gluten-free, but 2nd of all, they look like the most amazing eclairs! I want, no make that, need, one asap!” — Mollie

2-Ingredient Strawberry Fluff Dessert from Christina @ The DIY Mommy

“Seriously, how easy is this dessert? Just two ingredients. It looks so delectable, too. I’m in!” — Angie

You are right to be worried for her! The CDC has recommended for weeks “Avoid Unnecessary Travel.” (I’ve been meaning to do a post on nesting on on the cheap; it seems most food bloggers are business as usual, but this is going to be a big deal.)

The projected number of deaths is the US is in the millions and our hope is do all we can to keep the spread as slow as possible until a vaccine can be developed (a year is best case scenario) so it seems to me it’s really kinda a responsibility as citizens of the country and the world to do what we can to prevent not only spreading the disease if we have it but to avoid putting ourselves in situations where we can get it and take it somewhere else.

Who knows how many people that idiot (sorry but true) woman in Florida spread this to on her trip back from Italy where she said she was sick in Italy, didn’t want to be stuck there, in New York was “1,000 percent sure she had it” and then flew to Florida where she infected her husband and potentially every one she had contact with.

Tell her not to go! She might be just fine, even if she gets it; she’s young. But I can’t imagine anyone who gets it won’t be thinking of anyone they spread it to who later dies from it. I don’t think anyone will get over that!

I think I should at least mention the possibility of canceling her trip, but you know how it is with young people these days. If more cases are announced, then maybe the school will cancel. But we are not testing enough, or we’ve been slow to test. I’m trying not to panic, but my anxiety is building up inside.

I’m guessing most schools will cancel a lot of activities and trips as this escalates, if not it will be like most things and people will ultimately do what they want to do and what they think they deserve, consequences be damned. It’s like a slow train coming (and picking up speed) and the more it travels, the harder to stop!

We hope for the best, right?!

It is concerning – especially as a mom, but we can’t live in a bubble. This is my field of study in college and the same field I had to abandon due to my own lack of immunity, but life will go on, we just have to do things that keep us safe. Hug her, tell her to have a GREAT time, but remind her to wash her hands, use discretion, not share food or drinks and then have faith she’ll hear you in her head throughout her trip. Thank you for another GREAT party full of inspiring ideas and recipes. I love this week’s features. I brought my Bavarian Meatballs, Beer Braised Pork Chops and Tamale Bundt Pie with Salsa Verde Crema. Have a GREAT week.

Currently, we have 75 cases here in UAE. At least that’s what the news says. We were planning to go out since last month but we didn’t. Stay safe out there, Angie. Apologies for visiting FF so late – been busy at work. I hope we get to have vacation like schools, too.?

Hi, Jhuls. My girlfriends and I have planned to go out for dinner next week and we’re all looking forward to it, but now we’re supposed to practice social distancing. Does that mean it’s ok to have lunch or dinner with friends? Omg, how are we going thru THIS?! Btw, Jhuls, are you able to contact Laurena? Can you cohost with her this Friday? It’s short notice, but I need help! Pls let me know.
