Fiesta Friday #284

So who’s been on a cruise? Would you recommend it, or not? And what cruise line is a good one? Tell me about your experience, please.

I’m planning my summer vacation and since I’ve never been on a cruise before, I thought it’d be a good idea.

The husband is sold on it, the kids not so much. They think cruises are boring, and mainly for older folks.

What are they insinuating, actually? That I’m old?! What!

Oh, well… I could have been accused of something worse, I guess. Like being a non-supporter for USWNT and Megan Rapinoe, for instance. Equal pay, equal pay! Am I right?

Have a great weekend, Fiesta Friends!

Time for features!

Raspberry & White Chocolate Cupcakes from Kat @ The Baking Explorer

“I love everything about these cupcakes! They are beautiful and sound amazing! I can’t wait to try the combination of white chocolate and raspberry!” — Antonia

Creamy Dill Potato Salad from Nancy @ NancyC

“I’ve been craving potato salad for some time now. This potato salad is, to me, one of the best potato salad recipes I’ve seen.” — Jhuls

22 Ways to Use Club Soda to Save Money from Robin @ Fluster Buster

“I had no idea you can use club soda for so many things. Here I thought it’s just an ingredient for cocktails, silly me. No more wasting club soda!” — Angie

No Bake Lemon Custard “Possets” from Mollie @ Frugal Hausfrau

“I must add this here, I must. So I won’t forget to try it. Doesn’t it look delectable?!” — Angie

Thank you so much for featuring my cupcakes! I’ve never been on a cruise but I’ve heard there is so much to do for kids and water slides etc!

You’re welcome; those cupcakes sound fabulous. Yes, I’ve heard some cruises, particularly Disney’s, do offer a lot of activities for kids.

My parents took us on a Caribbean cruice when I was somewhere between 19 or 20. I dreaded the idea, being at that age at that time, but actually I had a lot of fun. We got to stop at several ports of call, and I did (unbeknownst to my parents) some serious flirting with a handsome Greek sailor who was working aboard. No, nothing REALLY serious transpired! He was a gentleman and I behaved well…
At any rate, the food was awesome – and there was more at midnight. We stopped to walk at every port of call, to see sights and try to eat as much native food as we had time for. We stopped mostly at islands, but back then it was safe to deport at Venezuela, which was pretty awesome portside at that time in history. Beyond that, there was the pool. I spent a lot of time IN the pool.
In short, the voyage isn’t just for “old folk”. Although I will admit my best seafaring voyage was the college graduation gift of sailing for 5 days in Penobscot Bay on an actual schooner. Having to bathe by jumping overboard in icy Maine waters mid-week. And helping out with the rigging and sailing when appropriate. That was roughing it in comparison, but totally up my somewhat “off-grid” alley!

So, did you keep in touch with the handsome sailor? ?? You’ve got some great memories there, Diann. Oh, to be young and carefree… what I wouldn’t give to go back to those days again. Thanks for the story. I enjoyed reading it!

That’s exactly the reason I thought about the cruise. I had no idea there are so many different kinds of cruises! I can’t decide what to do! ?

I recently went on my first cruise to the Bahamas and had a fantastic time. Granted, it was a themed cruise, I got to meet some celebrities that I adore, gamble, drink and other things. I don’t know if I would have such a great time on a regular cruise because I think it would be boring AF. I’m looking into a knitting or crochet cruise package maybe in a few years. I know of some crafting stars who sponsor something like this every so often, but that’s the only way I’ll do another cruise.

    Hope this helped!

Thanks, Glenda! I discovered these themed cruises while researching, omg so many! Had no idea! Now I’m having a hard time deciding. I agree they’re great for first timers.

I am not sure if I can call it a cruise, but we went somewhere (just in the Philippines) and we took a ship instead of a plane. I was in my teenage years at that time and I loved it. In fact, I missed it. So forget about the issue that it’s only for oldies.? I hope the kids will go for it.♥️ Happy Fiesta Friday, Angie.?

I have cruised my pop socks off…well a bit! Being english I have mostly cruised on the P & O ships but a couple of years ago I went on the Independence of the seas. It was great. My advice is to research the pants off each ship. The big ones have a HUGE amount for the kids to do. I ADORE it x
