Fiesta Friday #246

I did a lot of sitting around and feeling bored this week, which is uncharacteristic, but not unexpected. I was on voir dire aka jury selection.

As I was sitting there in the freezing courtroom, I briefly contemplated pet care as a means to get out early, but decided wisely in the end against making a fool of myself.

Which is more than I can say for some other jurors. What possessed these people to say what they said in front of a room full of strangers, I would never know.

Maybe they tried to inject humor or to gain sympathy or to make themselves to appear wholly unsuitable as jurors. Whatever the reasons were, most of these people did end up being dismissed earlier in the rounds.

Maybe next time I’ll try to act crazy.

Anyway, after 28 rounds that pretty much took the whole day, both sides were finally satisfied with the makeup of the jury. 15 jurors (3 would be alternates, I suppose) were eventually seated for the upcoming trial, and the rest of the potential jurors were dismissed.

I was one of the unlucky remaining handful to not be seated in the jury box, or should I say lucky. The judge did mention the trial will definitely run through Halloween and possibly Thanksgiving. With that, I went home feeling quite lucky.

Now, take a look at these yummies

Nasturtium Vinegar from Judi @ cookingwithauntjuju.com

“She always finds creative ways to bring her garden into her kitchen and here is yet another simple yet elegant idea.” — Deb

“Ways to bring the garden into the kitchen are always a hit with me, and what a lovely color!” — Liz

Chocolate Victoria Spongecake from Trupti @ My Culinary Saga

“I am not much of a ‘dessert’ person, but I wouldn’t be able to resist a piece of this cake.” — Liz

Easy No-Bake Lime Cracker Pudding from Vanitha @ Curry and Vanilla

“I find this quite remarkable. Salty Ritz crackers layered in a sweet pudding flavored with limes. What a novel and intriguing idea!” — Angie

4-Ingredient Protein Energy Balls from Monika @ Everyday Healthy Recipes

“There are so many recipes out there for energy balls, but this one actually got me interested. Could it be because it includes pineapple?! Who knows…but I was all ears or all eyes when I saw it.” — Angie

Nice surprise for the feature – thanks Angie, Deb and Liz! I put this post together so quick as frost was looming. Not much thought with pictures (should have taken off the plastic wrap and placed a few flowers around the vinegar). There are many herb flowers that make good vinegars – nasturtiums provide the prettiest color! The bees were busy – it was just a perfect time!

The picture is fine, but you can always update it if it bothers you. I know I cringe when I see my older posts/photos ? The vinegar idea is an excellent one, Judi!

Thanks for pinning my bee picture – it is my best one yet! I got good pictures of the bees – they were so busy and of course I left plenty of flowers for them after making the vinegar 🙂 I actually served on one trial – when I was being interviewed by both sides they wanted to know what my hubby did – I said he was a president and everyone laughed until I explained… The guy was being charged for great bodily harm less than murder – he went after his wife with a 2 x 4!

Bees are notoriously difficult to photograph. I’ve tried many times but they move too much! Butterflies are easier.

That trial sounds so interesting. I guess it could be fun being a juror when you’re on an interesting case ?

I guess it’s a necessary evil, but I’m glad I did my civic duty. Now hopefully I can live in peace for the next 5 years ? I really like your protein balls!

Nobody likes jury duty, but it’s an experience that can be educational. This wasn’t my first time, either! Have a great weekend, Jhuls!

I got called in for jury duty, and ended up on a three day trial for a criminal case. I found it most educational. We found the guy guilty of two of the four charges. He broke down and cried, because he’d already served time before, and apparently knew what prison was like.

I ended up on a second case a few years later, but Dad had taken a turn for the worse before I could serve, and so had to opt out. I don’t mind serving, but I will say the process while you are waiting to know if you will be on a jury or not… painful. I learned to bring reading material, but having the TV show Judge Judy in the room while we waited one of those days was amusing in some regard!

It’s funny how some people get called in for jury duty multiple times while some others never have to do any. I wonder how they determine that, or maybe it’s just random. For me it seems every 5 years or so I get summoned. I agree about the painful process of jury selection. So tedious!

Oof, a lengthy trial is probably not the most fun way to spend your time. Good luck, maybe it will be interesting! I loooove the looks of that chocolate victoria spongecake, that could definitely occupy my thoughts when I’m sitting around bored!

The case is quite interesting actually, but I wasn’t selected to be a juror in the end, so now I’m free, which I’m happy about. I did spend my time googling recipes while I was there ?
