Fiesta Friday #107

I’m running out of co-hosts, yikes!

I’m fine for next week, but after that I think I only have 1 co-host confirmed. Ideally, I’d like to have many weeks or months all lined up so I don’t have to keep asking. But I’m asking now. Just leave me a comment or use the contact page to let me know.

I know some of you have suggested permanent co-hosts, but I’m not sure I want Fiesta Friday to go in that direction. I do understand that most, if not all, link parties operate that way, but I’d like to think we’re different.

Fiesta Friday should belong to ALL of us. Each participant should have a say and an opportunity to be a co-host and to select features.

And that’s only a small part that you can play. There are many other ways that you can participate, by the way. But I have yet to formulate the best plans on how to make this into a more heavily participant or member-run site.

One day it’ll all become clear to me. I just need to sit down and think. There are so many things to consider. But who knows, maybe in the future we can turn this into a platform truly for bloggers to connect and share ideas. We can always dream.

In the meantime, I’m trying to learn as much as I can about blogging so I can share my findings with you. All in the limited time that I have, you know. I am, after all, a working mom who blogs only when time permits.

I’m even thinking of joining Food Blogger Pro. Seems to be the place to learn. Though membership is not exactly cheap. $29 a month is quite steep. But who knows, maybe I’ll come away with tremendous amount of knowledge.

I’m still deciding.

I know one thing I don’t have to decide. Partying with you! That comes automatically, first and foremost!

NOW, FEATURES!

Pineapple Cream Meringue Tart from Julie @ Hostess at Heart

“Did someone say pineapple?! You may not know this, but I have a thing about pineapple. What?! You knew?! How?! Anyway, these tarts are absolutely delightful. I must, must make! Thank you much, Julie, for the recipe.” — Angie

Spiced Apple and Marzipan Semlor from Laurie @ ten.times.tea

“I love those dainty little buns, especially as they are made with a sourdough starter! The spiced apple filling is also a winner, perfect for this time of the year. ” — Steffi

For another semlor recipe, check out Petra’s. Hers is filled with raspberry jam. Sounds equally delicious.

The Swedish Semlor from Petra @ CrumblesandKale

Ultimate Cherry Cheesecake from Lily @ Little Sweet Baker

“I’m obsessed with all things cheesecake so when I spotted this ultimate cherry cheesecake, I knew I had to pick it! I love how this cheesecake is made with Greek yogurt and not just cream cheese yet still maintains its creaminess. And that sweet cherry glaze looks sooo amazing.” — Andrea

Roselle Sponge Cake from Cynthia @ eatmunchlove

“Roselle completely haunts me. I’ve always wanted to try it but haven’t been able to find any. I suppose I can always order online, but no…that would be too easy! Instead I accepted another blogger’s offer to send me some seeds from overseas so I could plant it myself. Long story short, next thing I knew I was contacted by US Customs. Turned out it was illegal to send seeds from a different country. The seeds were destroyed and I haven’t had roselle to this day. So sad… I can only imagine how wonderful this cake must have tasted. One day, one day…” — Angie

If you’re lining up for MONTHS, I’m free to co-host every weekend in May and the first one in June, so just let me know! (Until then, my Internet is so slow that I can barely post comments half the time, but fortunately I’ve been able to keep posts coming up so far.)

Loved the features, and it’s too bad about the seeds being brought into another country, but loads of countries are strict on those sorts of things. (I know because I carry food with me EVERYWHERE and sometimes I have to leave it on the plane!)

Ok, I’ll be talking again with you in May. I was very sorry about the seeds. Especially since this person took her time to mail them to me. Oh well, lesson learned 🙂

I like the ‘surprise co-hosts’ more than the permanent co-hosts. It really gives everyone a chance to become co-hosts.

Anyway, I am just a message away, Angie! You know I’d love to be your co-host and so I can tell to our FF friends, too, to give me more sweets! 😀

I understand your situation with the co-hosts and wanting to be different. Anyone can take the easy path, but only few can stand apart from the crowd and make a difference! I am hoping to mingle and jingle today and do a good job co-hosting! We don’t want anyone feel left out at the Fiesta. Lets Paarty!!

You could have a rotating group of co-hosts from bloggers who want to sign up on a more permeant basis. But also have 1 or 2 weeks out of each month to highlight new co-hosts. I know how happy I was when I was asked to co-host for the first time. I had just started blogging and it was a big deal co-hosting to a new blogger. It also fosters loyalty to FF!
Secondly I am a member FBPRO. I am not sure it is worth the cost but I would say it isn’t either. If you are serious about blogging the wealth of information they offer is amazing. They are also accessible to any question you might have and produce new podcasts every week. I need to more of the videos but it is a with of information. OK I am done rambling. Have a great weekend and Happy FF to everyone.
BTW I can co-host 4th week of March if needed.

No, no…its not rambling!! I want to hear more about FBPro! Is it worth it or not? Now remember at this point neither one of us is technically newbies. That’s the only concern I have. If maybe it’s a little too late for me to join. Do you find you’re still learning as you go along?

Oh very much so. I am not sure how long I will keep it but it has very technical videos about more advanced subjects. My new project is to learn HTML and CSS so I can start doing more of the coding myself and hopefully others. Another great resource (for free) is Minimilist Baker blog. They have great WP tutorial videos.

Hosting Fiesta Friday doesn’t entail a lot of technical know-how but it does require time. And it definitely won’t be ongoing or permanent. I’d suggest that you start coming to our parties and get a feel for how things are run here so you’ll feel more comfortable.

Sorry about that–with my (lack of) time management skills, I sometimes let things get out of hand. I can cohost sometime in March–maybe it would be best if I get back to you with a specific week?

Hey Angie, I already think of you as the blogger-pro! Really? I think you know a lot and I think of you as a leader !! You can put me down to co-host every few months or so. Sometimes I am a bit too busy, but it is always fun.

Loving it – what an amazing week it was, I couldn’t make up my mind at all and would have nominated all of the entries if you had let me 😉 I usually work Fridays and all day Saturday but will be off around Easter (Easter itself and the weekend after) – let me know if any of these weekends are good for you!

I’ll let you know if anything opens around Easter. I’m still waiting for a few people to reconfirm. If they cancel, change their mind, etc., I can definitely use your help. Otherwise FF is fully booked until May!

All those desserts look ah-mazing! Eatmunchlove’s Roselle Sponge though is exquisite! I’ve never even heard of Roselle but you make me want to research it! Sorry, I haven’t been around – it’s been hectic the last few weeks with study and I haven’t quite gotten the hang of study AND blogging AND walking!

Regarding co-hosting – I would like to volunteer but I can’t really commit until around the end of May what with my course. Some weeks are definitely more involved than others and I want to be able to commit fully when I co-host. Let me know if you need someone around then, though!

I’m back for the party this week and I’ll be adding my link soon! Cheers!

Roselle is some kind of hibiscus. The leaves and flowers are edible. I’ve been wanting to try it for like forever but haven’t been able to get a hold of. May 27 is still open if you’ll take it. Thanks!

If you start coming regularly to Fiesta Friday, you’ll get a feel of how things are run. And I will also send the co-hosting guidelines once we agree on the week. Please talk to me again some time in May if you’re still interested by then.
