Fiesta Friday #99

#99! Does that sound threatening or what?! It’s like a warning. One more week until #100, yikes!

But it’s exciting as well! Nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time, if you will.

I have something planned to mark the special occasion, which I will tell you in a minute.

But first I need to get something off my chest. For some reason, every time I hear the number 99, there’s this commercial jingle that immediately jumps to my mind.

It goes like this, “Nine-ninety-nine, are you outta your mind?!”

Now I have no idea why that is. Or where I heard that jingle from. And it kinda bothers me a little that nobody in my family knows what I’m talking about. And so I just thought I should talk to you about it. ‘Cos it does me no good to carry this in my chest and you’re my sounding board. And I’m yours, of course.

Anyway, THE PLAN!

I thought it’d be a good idea to celebrate #100 by combining it with the Second Anniversary; it’s close enough.

And then, since it’s also close enough to New Year’s Day, I thought we should also combine it with a New Year’s Celebration.

And then, since it’s a celebration of so many events all in one, I thought we should extend the party to two weeks.

That way if you can’t make it the first week, you can still catch us partying the next week.

So… #100 is going to run for 2 whole weeks! And it’s going to be THE BIGGEST ANNIVERSARY CUM NEW YEAR’S BASH!!

And it’s going to be the most fun online party, period!

And we’ll have 4 superb co-hostesses with the mostest to make sure that everything will run smoothly.

So, please start spreading the news! Invite all your friends to join in the fun!

It’s a bash, it’s a gala! Bring us your most extravagant and lavish dish and dessert! Let’s live it up! Yolo, people! (If the president can say it, so can I.)

*****

But right now we’re still partying, Christmas-style, with Caroline @ Caroline’s Cooking and Linda @ La Petite Paniere. Caroline is a seasoned co-host and we’re very happy to have her. Linda is a brand-new co-host and is a wee bit nervous so please let her know it will be a-okay. I have every confidence they both will do a smashing job!

Now, let’s look at all these fabulous Christmas treats:

Linzer Cookies by Naina @ Spice In The City

“These cookies look awesome, perfect for the Christmas festive season.” — Sadhna

“I agree with Sadhna. These Linzer cookies are not your everyday cookies; these are your special holiday treats! Nothing can possibly look any more festive than these cookies. Just so pretty!” — Angie

Gingerbread Caramel Crunch from Jess @ Cooking is My Sport

“I’ve been drooling over this recipe since I first saw it. I’m actually going to attempt making it tonight as a gift for my daughters preschool teachers.” — Natalie

“And I’m drooling along with Natalie. This sounds so, so, so GOOD!! I’ll be making this, too, and I’ll be smuggling it into the movies when I go see the much-anticipated THE FORCE AWAKENS. I’m not eating movie theater popcorn! Not when I have this!” — Angie

Cranberry & Marzipan Star Bread from Sarah @ Tales From The Kitchen Shed

“If I could make this spectacular bread, I wouldn’t even eat it! It would instead top my Christmas tree… for a minute, haha… Then it’ll disappear… into my tummy. Seriously, is there any bread as gorgeous as THIS?!” — Angie

Ginger Glazed Gammon from Hannah @ Domestic Gothess

“Growing up, both my husband and I were more familiar with Christmas Dinners that featured ham as the centerpiece. Over the years, however, we’ve been trying to make our own Christmas traditions for our kids to remember. So we’ve veered off from the ham, and have replaced it with prime rib roast. Looking at this, however, makes me want to go back to ham. Doesn’t it look so HAM-some? 😀 Haha!” — Angie

After some sleuthing and bothering people, I solved the mystery of the jingle! It was a Denny’s commercial probably from the 90s. But it was ONE-Ninety-Nine. Phew, now I’m tired. Sleuthing is hard work! And I would love to see stilettos fascinator, that would be a first, and only on Fiesta Friday, haha…

This is what happens when you work in a school; you start sounding like one of the kids yourself! And why don’t you come to the party, Sir? You’re one of the original cray members, after all, haha… Btw, the jingle is from 90s Denny’s grand slam commercial, except it was 1.99, not 9.99. Someone at work helped me remember. Thank God! Haha! That’s crazy, because I was also thinking about making Sans Rival cake for FF#100, but if I do, that will be my first time. But I suddenly changed my mind and thought of a fondant cake, but then again, I changed my mind. 😀

I have seen recipes, Angie, but I haven’t decided which one is good for me. And yeah, that cake is insanely good! Now, you make me want to make the cake. But making the meringue makes me scared – I failed thrice (making simple meringues – all three attempts result to a burned meringues), so I will see if I can find my fighting spirit again.
