Work has become more challenging for me this school year due the makeup of the students. It seems we have a higher proportion of students with special needs than before. Still, I'm glad to be back at work, following schedules and routines. They structure my days, helping me stay organized and disciplined. Skye is officially 17! She turned 17 sometime this year; her exact date of birth is unconfirmed. We brought her home on August 22nd nine years ago at the ripe old age of 8, so we know she was at least 17 a couple of weeks ago. But of course it wasn't official until she had a birthday cake. In a few days, my family and I will have to say goodbye once again to our house.
