Fiesta Friday #207

So… who’s having trouble keeping their New Year’s resolutions?

I, yo, je, ik… that’s who!

I thought I was going to blog more frequently… I am not, but it’s still early in the year, so I’m hopeful.

I thought I was going to be more organized… Oh, this one is half-broken. I HAVE taken things out of my closet, either to discard or donate.

And I really thought I was going to eat healthier… Well, there was that one time when I brought cut-up cucumbers for a snack to work… Oh, and that one time when I had roasted cauliflower instead of potatoes with my dinner. Surely those count?

Anyway, I’ll just have to try harder. New Year’s resolutions should be abandoned by February, not January! I only have a couple of weeks to keep them up, how hard can that be?!

Here are some fabulous posts from last week’s fiesta:

Quinoa Fish Cakes with Radish Sauce from Monika @ Everyday Healthy Recipes

“Fish cakes and radish sauce are a fantastic pairing, I love how Monika gives it a spin with the use of quinoa in the fish cake.” — Shinta

“Using quinoa in a fish cake would provide a good nutty texture — and that radish sauce would be great with any number of savory dishes.” — Diann

Cajun Stuffed Chicken Breasts from Mollie @ The Frugal Hausfrau

“I’m inspired to make this tempting dish on a weekend very soon! Mollie has some nice tips for stuffing options, and her own recipe for Cajun spice blend, that I am bookmarking!” — Shinta

Moussakah Vegetarian from Zeba @ Food For The Soul

“An excellent rendition of a dish usually associated with lamb or beef. This is something I’d love to try my hand at, if not my tastebuds.” — Diann

Roasted Persimmons from Elaine @ foodbod

“What a terrific idea for a healthy dessert option! I did bring home a box of persimmons from my California trip, courtesy of MIL’s garden. I should have roasted some… Should have, could have, would have… if only I saw this earlier… Can I just say #regret?! Oh, well, next time…” — Angie

I don’t believe in New Years resolutions, makes life a lot easier! 😉
Thank you SO much for choosing my roasted persimmons, I’m amazed that the post inspired so many people, I thought I was doing what everyone does! It’s lovely to share something people like the look of ??? and in such good company with the other picks ?? Xx

I’m going to stop making them! The resolutions, that is. The roasted persimmons, though, are a keeper. Persimmons are best eaten fully ripe and slightly soft, IMO. They’re really sweet that way. Roasting them would intensify their flavor, I would think. Wonderful idea!

It did wonders for the persimmons I had, that’s for sure 🙂
I’m afraid that my belief is that all New Years resolutions do is create pressures; you can make changes or promises to yourself any time of year, if that’s what you choose, and not get caught up in the whole big guilt cycle!

I think New years resolutions are made to be broken, I see it more as time to reflect!
One year I made a resolution to stop snacking and had 3 snacks allowed, one was 6 raisins. Apparently this is supposed to be enough, satisfy the sweet cravings and in general be a perk. I bought a big tub and before I even registered I must have eaten about 300 raisins! The tub that was supposed to last me pretty much all year was gone in a week and it was the first week of Jan! The other two was a stick of celery and half an apple, neither ever even happened!
I know I don’t even make it every week but it isn’t Friday without Fiesta Friday! 🙂 x

Lol, Petra! You and that big tub of raisins, how funny ? Oh I’m the same way, my biggest weakness is probably gummy candy, which is much worse than raisins! If I start, I can’t stop! ? I’m so glad the Fiesta makes your Fridays better. That’s all I can ever ask for! ??

Hi Angie, thank you so much for featuring my fish cakes and thank you to Shinta and Diann for their kind words! I’ve been battling the flu and almost forgot it was Friday, but my temperature has gone down for the time being and I can think a little clearer, so that’s how I finally remembered it’s Fiesta time! I can co-host in 2 weeks time:)

Nooo Angie… you need resolutions! 😀 Not necessarily at New Years though 😛 but something as a goal or a target to aspire to! However, they do need to be specific and realistic and something which can be achieved, yours could be turning up to Fiesta Friday each week! 😛 You know I said one of mine was to visit (& co-host) more often! So here I am! It’s in my head now on a Friday that I need to at least pop over here and see what’s going on, even if I don’t share anything. Without my resolution I might just think ‘oh, I’ll check next week… or next… or next…’ then it would be Christmas again! 😛

It’s not to late to re-evaluate your resolutions if you so wish, so instead of eat healthier, you could say have at least one piece of fruit a day, or always serve dinner with at least one vegetable (peppers on pizza count)! Cucumbers and cauliflower are both healthy, so if you’ve not taken cucumbers to work before, or switched potatoes for cauliflower (I’ll take the potatoes!) then that is already being healthier! 😀 😀 😀

Blog more frequently? Well, my resolution a few years back was to blog at least once a week – that means at least once every seven days so at the minute my blog day is Wednesday, but I sometimes post an extra one if I know on Wednesday I’ll be busy! More frequently is very generic – maybe you already posted more frequently than last January but just didn’t realise, or maybe this year you’ve already posted more frequently than December just gone! 😛 So, that one is working too!

Be more organised! This is my favourite one! More organised than what? Sorting things out ready to donate or discard doesn’t make it half broken? It makes it halfway there! 😀 Hooray! What else needs to be organised? You’re already sorting co-hosts for the year ahead so that’s very organised! 😀

Maybe one of my resolutions should be to write less! 😛 Lol! Oh, and a fun fact for you… Wednesday 17th January 2018 was Official ‘Ditch your New Years Resolutions Day 2018’ so anybody who has got this far is a star! 😀 xxx

Wow, you can be my motivational coach! I feel all positive and optimistic after your speech. And may I say how well-said and eloquent that was! I completely agree that I wasn’t specific enough in my goals, and in the future I’ll go with baby steps, i.e., finish organizing 1 closet instead of the vague and general “get organized”. You’re so smart!! You should have a TV show! ??

I have goals for this year, as ill be starting up my farmstead, but they aren’t exactly resolutions.

Meanwhile, my computer has died, so I am simply hoping I can link properly from my one-finger kindle. Fortunately, I pre-scheduled two blog posts, including the current one, so I don’t have to write or figure those out.

Btw, so exciting to be starting a farm. Will you be raising goats and greens? ? I think that’d be an excellent project and again, exciting!!
