Summer is officially here! For me, that is. But for the rest of you, sorry to say it’ll take a few more days…
Oh, I’m just teasing you…which only proves how happy and free I feel.
Yesterday, as soon as I came home from work, I went straight to my backyard and ransacked my garden. Then I ransacked my fridge and freezer.
Then with a little stir here, and a little shake there, I was ready to celebrate my freedom in style. Woohoo!!
Here’s a toast to us all! We deserve it, cheers!!
And now, features!
Eccles Cakes with a Difference from Hilda @ Along the Grapevine
“These unusual eccles cakes with a touch of spruce flavour are the perfect picnic food.” — Monika
“The wannabe-forager in me loves a recipe like this, unexpected and unique. But above all, it uses ingredients otherwise overlooked or considered weeds. It goes to show how much free foods are out there in the wild, if you’re willing to investigate and explore a little. Spruce tips are actually one of my favorite Spring-time nibbles when I’m out working in my backyard!” — Angie
Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp from Lily @ Little Sweet Baker
“I love the combination of strawberries and rhubarb! The crisp looks perfect and seasonal and totally delicious!” — Suzanne
Carob Bacon Donut Dog Treats from Jessica @ Living La Vida Holoka
“Well, all I can say is that Percy better guard those donuts because I just may eat them myself. They look so delicious!!” Suzanne
Lemon Lemon Meringue Cupcakes from Jenny @ Jenny is baking
“OMG, I love these cupcakes! I am a sucker for anything lemon and the cupcakes look positively ethereal, fluffy, light and so so yummy!!” — Suzanne

Those look refreshing! And when are we going to see the recipe? 😀 Thanks for the party, Angie. Have a lovely weekend & happy FF!
Angie says
No need for recipe, Jhuls! Just ransack your supplies, muddle herbs and fruits in a glass or shaker with a little sugar, add seltzer, ice cubes and that’s it! See, so easy! ? Thanks for cohosting! ?
Jhuls says
With your gorgeous photo, I never thought it would be that easy. 😀
Glad to be co-hosting! <3
Angie says
Oh you can get fancy and add this and that, of course. And strain to make it look pretty (I did) but basically, drinks are easy.
Monika says
Hi Angie! Congratulations on having your freedom back! Are you a teacher? The celebratory beverages look very refreshing:)
Angie says
Thanks! I’m an instructional assistant. Thanks for cohosting! Happy FF and have a great weekend! ?
Elaine @ foodbod says
Woohoo! Welcome to your summer ??? enjoy it!
Angie says
Thanks! Woohoo! Now what should I do first? I’m still in bed, btw, hehe… Watching TV and checking on the blog, etc. Such luxury!

Stay there!

Lily says
What a great way to reward yourself after getting all your gardening done. Those drinks look so tasty and refreshing, yum! And thanks for the feature:)
Angie says
Who said the gardening is done? It’s never done, Lily! ?? You’re too cute! And I love your easy recipe. I happen to have both strawberries and rhubarb in the garden. My rhubarb though, is green, and after cooking it looks kinda yucky ☹️ Maybe I need to plant a different variety.
Lily says
A few drops of red food coloring can help with that.
Angie says
Oh, thanks for the tip! ?
Edyta at Innocent Delight says
Hi Angie! Thanks for hosting the party. This is my absolute first time participating in a party and I am super excited. Have a wonderful weekend 🙂
Angie says
Welcome to Fiesta Friday, Edyta! We’re always excited and happy to meet new friends. I hope you’ll have fun! ??
Jenny says
Hi Angie, wow, thanks. First time I take part and then I am featured. Thank you so much! Currently elderberries are in full bloom, I may do the same and ransack them for delicious beverages!
Angie says
You’re welcome ? Those lemon cupcakes look so scrumptious! And I have yet to try elderberry drinks, even though in my old house I actually grew them, duh ?
Jenny says
Oh, I am sooo going to pluck them tomorrow!
Tracey@MyBajaKitchen.com and TraceyDelaplainMD.com says
I love to ransack my herbs! I should have reliable internet for a while (Hope springs eternal) ? I am available for co-hosting when you need help. I just launched my new site http://www.mybajakitchen.com and I believe there’s a cookbook in the works. (Hope springs eternal) Ha ha I do a lot of hoping.
Tracey
Angie says
Oh, how exciting!! And being hopeful is a good thing ? Can you cohost next week? FF 177 June 23? That way you can also introduce your new blog ?
Tracey@MyBajaKitchen.com and TraceyDelaplainMD.com says
I sent an email reply. Thanks for asking.
petra08 says
Summer has arrived in the UK as well and it is just gorgeous! Cheers and Happy weekend 🙂 x
Angie says
Enjoy the good weather, Petra! I was out and about in the garden today. A little humid, though. Then I found a bunny feasting on my broccoli, but it was so scrawny I didn’t have the heart to shoo it away ? I can always buy my broccoli ?
petra08 says
Hi Angie someone once told me grow 10-20% for nature and the rest for you. I hope the little bunny left you some of the broccoli! I would do the same as you! It is getting hotter and hotter here, just amazing I hope you have a spell of the same lovely weather! x

Angie says
Thanks for coming, Jas! Happy Fiesta Friday and have a great weekend!
Ann GrubbsnCritters says
Is it already summer there already? We are having longer days but it’s still spring here. Happy weekend, Angie!
Angie says
Lucky you! Wish we could have Spring a little longer here, or forever ? I hate it when it’s cold but I hate it more when it’s hot. I can never win! ?
Ann GrubbsnCritters says
You are right! It’s never the right weather. I have the same thing. Don’t like too hot more than I don’t like the cold. And this after living in the tropics of all my life. I’m staying indoors if the temp hits 30 degrees.
Zeba@Food For The Soul says
Hot hot summer!! Love it, the herbs and the veggies are overflowing. This must be heaven so cheers to that Angie!
Angie says
I know! Can’t believe how humid it already is! But then, the plants love it, so I shouldn’t complain too much ? Happy weekend, Zeba! ?
Laura @ Feast Wisely says
I’m thinking of you enjoying that summer weather Angie – here in Sydney we face the shortest day of the year tomorrow and so it’s about as cold as it gets (high single digits)….
Angie says
I always find it fascinating that when it gets warm here, you guys over there are settling in for the cold ? Single digits, though, is too cold!! Wish it could be Spring forever. Or Fall ?
Laura @ Feast Wisely says
Agree Angie I’d take a year round Spring!

Thanks so much Angie for the feature and the kind words. I was out of town for a few days and just checked in to FF to see what was happening – lovely surprise. I’m always so pleased when anyone recognizes the value of some of the wonderful flavours out there just waiting to be used. I’m glad you are enjoying the summer break in style.
Angie | Fiesta Friday says
You’re welcome, but really we should thank YOU! I know I’ve learned a lot from you. I think it was you who first told me about spruce tips ? Just yesterday I found out about pepperweed! I just love it when I learn something new.
Liz @ spades, spatulas, and spoons says
Welcome to summer vacation Angie!
Angie | Fiesta Friday says
Thanks, Liz! I plan on being productive of course ? But it’s too hot to cook!
Liz @ spades, spatulas, and spoons says
Here as well these last few days, but at least it isn’t humid.
Cathleen @ A Taste of Madness says
What a collection! Going to check out the eccles cakes! 🙂
