Fiesta Friday #140

Skye News Alert! Brought to you by Skye!

Skye came to us with shorn hair around the body and legs but unusually long and scraggly hair around the ears and face. In other words, she had a bad haircut.

The shelter did mention she had matted hair when she arrived, and had a rough time at the groomers’, probably because she wasn’t used to being groomed.

How anyone can own a pet and not take care of it, I can never understand. At the very least, comb their hair! Right?!

Anyway, slowly…I’ve been grooming her, a little bit here, a little bit there… A little bit at a time since she’s afraid of the clippers. I can use small scissors but the electric clippers terrify her.

She trusts me enough now to let me cut her facial hair. She has so much hair on her face, no wonder people mistake her for a boy all the time. Haha…that’s a Skye joke for you!

On top of it, the shelter gave her a blue leash. That’s why my neighbors all thought she was a boy.

But I told Skye,”Don’t worry, Skye, I’ll give you a makeover… I’ll make you pretty, I promise.”

And look, when I said that to her, she became so happy.

Now, Features!

The Best Apple Crumb Pie Ever from Debbie @ The Mountain Kitchen

“I am such a sucker for apple pie, and this apple crumb pie looks amazing! A perfect fall dessert!” — Antonia

“Hey, it’s the best apple crumb pie ever! Do I even need to say anything else?! Let’s all get apples, and make this!” — Angie

Elderberry Tart with Cassis from Sarah @ Tales From The Kitchen Shed

“[This tart] is sure to propel us out of our seats and go foraging for elderberries! The custard flavored with crème de cassis and the rich pastry makes me want to have a slice now! Plus, the photographs are absolutely brilliant and drool worthy!” — Sandhya

Upside-Down Peach Cake with Hot Rum Sauce from Julie @ Hostess at Heart

“Where do I start? I don’t know what I want more, the hot rum sauce or the amazing cake!” — Antonia

Corn Hurda in Papad Bowl from Sandhya @ Indfused

“Okay, this is just too clever and too intriguing for me. First, the papad bowl! I know what papad is, but I’ve never even considered making it into an edible bowl. How cool is that? And as far as the hurda is concerned, it’s something new I just learned. Why haven’t I been invited to a hurda party before?!” — Angie

You should, Judi, they’re such great companion. Skye would come to me and warm my feet when I’m watching TV. Now I don’t need my little heater anymore, saves me on electricity haha… They serve papad in Indian restaurants and I’ve bought them and fried them myself, too, very good! Hurda is new to me, too! 🙂

Angie!!!! Your IG comment gave me a kick up the butt to come link up finally! I’m sorry I’ve been sooooo absent, I barely have time to bake lately! And I don’t like to link up unless I can commit to visiting other links. But I’m very poorly at the moment, so figured I might have time to visit at least some in between napping!
I’ve missed so much though! You got a puppy!!! She’s gorgeous! We have a long haired dachshund and even though we brush her every day and cut her fur every week, she still gets loads of mats, can’t believe people who get long haired dogs and don’t take care of them!
And that’s funny everyone thought she was a boy, good thing dogs don’t care haha! We take care of my sisters dog, he’s a boy but he has a pink lead and pink and sparkly harness!

Thanks! And to think I wanted a poodle! Which is equally as cute, of course, but I think Westies may be better suited for me, temperament wise. Like you said, they’re very tolerant ? Skye said hi back to Luna ?

It’s great to see Skye now she’s had time to settle in Angie. Our dogs have all been rescue dogs and it takes a long time for them to learn to trust again. It’s brilliant that she’s letting you cut her hair around her face, you’ve done a grand job.
It was a lovely surprise to see my elderberry tart featured, thank you. I’ve moved countries this weekend, from France to Guernsey for the winter so I haven’t had time to post a recipe. Hopefully I’ll get time ot blog hop x

Skye seems to love it here, but there are still issues, mostly having to do with anxiety and fear. Typical of dogs that have gone through tough times earlier in their lives. I just have to be very patient with her, and I am ? I love the idea of that elderberry tart! And good luck with the move, hope everything goes smoothly!
