Fiesta Friday #139

Has everybody gone apple picking yet?! Well, not me!!

I kept thinking, next week…next week… But apparently, next week never came…

And I have no apples. Which means there are no apple pies. Or apple dumplings. Or apple crepes. Or apple anything!

Which is so not right! Since apples are my favorite fruit… I mean, after pineapples…

I can always blame the hubster for the non-existent apples, I guess… I usually do for everything else, anyway. But I think I’ll give him a break this week. I’m going to blame it on the weather instead.

It’s been sun-less and wet and dreary, just not conducive for apple picking…

I really hope this will change very soon… I don’t know how much longer I can go without my apples… The kind that I pick myself!

Here’s wishing that it’s sunny wherever you are! Happy Fiesta Friday!

Now, Features!

Chicken Meatball Sliders with roasted red pepper sauce from Anjana @ Happy & Harried

“These sliders floored me! They woke me up and made me take notice; familiar flavors twisted in an amazing way!” — Mollie

“[If] we could have these sliders, then the ice cream [from Julianna below], happy camper I’d be!  LOL!” — Johanne

Ras-el-Hanout Ice Cream from Juliana @ Foodie on Board

“The Ras…what ice cream now?! Oh, okay, Ras-el-Hanout! That spicy thing I associate with meat stews. Except Julianna put it in this ice cream. Yup, she pretty much rocks it in here, that Julianna! I know Johanne agrees!” — Angie

Basil Peach Margarita from Caroline @ Caroline’s Cooking

“I fell hard for this Basil Peach Margarita!!” — Mollie

“I loved this Basil Peach Margarita!  Is it too early for me to have one now?” — Johanne

Tangzhong Chocolate Swirl Buns from Hannah @ Domestic Gothess

“This is the second or third time I’ve heard about the intriguing Tangzhong method, touted as the best way to produce the fluffiest bread that stays soft and fresh longer. It’s about time for me to give it a try, and what better recipe to follow than this?! Look at how beautiful those buns are!” — Angie

Luckily, Su, my favorite apple is Fuji and it’s a late season variety so we should be ok until end of October. Unless of course that’s not your favorite ? Some varieties I think will be done by Oct. Let’s pray for some sun! Have a wonderful weekend! ?

It was so much fun hosting last week with you guys! I brought my apple/peeler/corer thingy back to South Dakota when I came – I’m psyched to make apple recipes but it is still so hot here! We’ll have to see what the farmer’s market has tomorrow (my fave way to pick apples!)

Btw, I used the Tangzhong method on my Kindred Milk Bread that got picked awhile back and I have my eyes on these chocolate swirl buns. Once you make this bread it’s enough to just erase any thoughts of any other bread.

Well now that you mentioned it, I definitely need to try this Tangzhong method and make both your Kindred Bread and Hannah’s buns. I hope it’s not too difficult! Luckily I have a kitchenaid, that should help, right? Hannah did mention half hour kneading if by hand, no way!!

Naww, it’s easy. By hand is ALWAYS a lot longer. I just checked my recipe. Start to finish in under two hours. Five minutes kneading in the kitchenaide, then work the butter in, which takes about four more minutes. Easy peasy!

Now those rolls are a little more complicated! But they soooo look like they’re worth it.

Not something we ever did in the UK – both as Elaine says not sure how possible it even is plus the kids thing kind of drives it too 🙂
