Fiesta Friday #119

So…I’ve been found.

My high school friends found me. Apparently I was lost and presumed missing. I had no idea! I told them…uhm…I’ve been here all along…

Anyway, it’s been great! We have whatsapp going now. I got to upgrade my phone because of it, since it was so archaic and wouldn’t download the app. But it was a small price to pay.

And now I’m on this chat day and night, barely sleeping. We’re all scattered and live in different time zones, so my phone is continuously dinging.

It’s dinging when I’m asleep. Dinging when I’m awake. Dinging when I brush my teeth, dinging when I’m peeling eggs, dinging when I’m eating, and so on. Someone is always dinging with news updates.

Which is really great, you know. A few more dings and I’ll get caught up and it’ll be as if I’ve been with them all this time.

Old friends…they’re so precious! As the song goes… Make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold… How true, right?!

Anyway, as a consequence, my nails…I mean this blog is more neglected than normal. But so are the nails. The polish all chipped…I won’t gross you out any more.

So I’m going to make a point today to shut off my phone and get my pedicure done and most importantly, spend time with you and Fiesta Friday. It’s high time.

And hopefully this weekend I’ll have time to make something special. For all of you, my silver friends! (Btw, I heard silver is a hotter commodity than gold these days!)

Now, Features!

buttermilk-brown-butter-cornbread

Buttermilk Brown Butter Cornbread with Bourbon-Maple Pecan Butter from MB @ Bourbon and Brown Sugar

“Back to basics, guys! It may be just cornbread but it’s the best on the planet. That’s what MB promised. And I tend to agree and why not? Second line on the recipe reads “real maple syrup” and with that the deal is sealed. That’s it! I’m discarding my old cornbread recipe!” — Angie

Dates Iced Coffee from Anjana @ At The Corner of Happy and Harried

“Such a delicious way to get a rich, smooth and dreamy (yes dreamy) refreshing drink AND it’s packed full of nutrients too! ? Anjana’s photography of the drinks is so picture perfect it makes you want to lift one right off the screen!!! ? ” — Laurena

Fried Rice in Tropical Flavors from Kriti @ Krispy Kadhai

“I simply loved how this dish brought us right into the warmth of summer! And, the tropical nature of the dish was only enhanced by serving it in a pineapple.” — Kaila

Pink Rhubarb Ice Cream from Colleen @ Faith, Hope, Love, and Luck

“Rhubarb ice-cream! ? This is just such an exciting flavour and Colleen has presented it as melt-in-the-mouth deliciousness!” — Laurena

Great features again Angie. Your last sentence gave me a Friday morning chuckle. I too have just been introduced to Whatsapp and I’m having a wonderful time reaching friends and family from around the globe (for free). It’s great to be keeping the old and reaching out to the new. Enjoy your pedicure and the weekend. 🙂

It’s truly a blessing to reconnect with old friends. After all these years it’s funny how easily we ease into banter and fun teasing. It’s almost as if we’re brothers and sisters. But I’m looking forward to some time with FF friends this weekend, too ?

It’s been great fun, Elaine! So much teasing and joking around. The boys especially are merciless. But these are jokes that only old friends can say to each other ??

      • Elaine @ foodbod says

        May 13, 2016 at 8:36 am

How cool! That must be so nice to share old memories and rekindle old jokes ?

Old friends are one of the bests! I’ve had these old, long-time (and super crazy) high school best friends, but we do not talk a lot… but when we do, it’s like we never parted ways. Ahhh, I missed them! Glad you had fun joking around and chatting with your old friends, Angie. Happy FF and good luck on the pedicure. 😀 x

Two weekends ago, I got together with my old high school mates — 45th reunion, and I’d not seen any of them since the 10 year reunion. At any rate, I’d lost touch with all of them until just shy of the 40th reunion — but they found me too late for me to attend that one.

Always interesting to see how lives have diverged, and sometimes converged again!

    • Angie says

      May 13, 2016 at 8:57 pm

45th reunion, wow! I hope when my classmates and I reach that milestone, we’ll still like each other, and not try to kill each other haha… Right now some of them bug me a little with some pretty embarrassing memories but oh well…your past will eventually catch up with you anyway, so might as well sooner than later. ?

I’ve reconnected on FB with many of my class members. The funny thing is that our class was only 30 people so we new everyone in the high school. 🙂

    • Angie says

      May 13, 2016 at 8:05 pm

The world is truly small isn’t it? Its amazing how we can connect pretty much with everyone in the world these days. So far I’m enjoying it although they’re now starting to bring up old jokes and a few embarrassing stories. You know back then we were so stupid! Haha! ?

How lovely to reconnect with old friends! I remember running in to an old school mate when I was home for my wedding after many years – was weird but nice! Sorry for being late in linking up, I’m at my first ever blogging conference and first time away from the kids – the last bit has had me a bit worried but they’re surviving! Good luck with getting a wee break from the dings 🙂

    • Angie says

      May 15, 2016 at 9:01 am

Oh can’t wait to hear all about the blogging conference. It’s tough leaving kids at home, isn’t it? I used to have a hard time even when the kids had a sleepover at friends’. My husband used to tease “Cut the cord!” ??

Angie, yeah whatsapp is a great way to be in touch with old friends. But a word of caution,it can get overwhelming pretty soon with all the messages and the forwards! 🙂

    • Angie says

      May 15, 2016 at 8:56 pm

Yeah, I found out, Indu, lol! I think as a whole though it’s been fun and positive. I guess it’s all still new to me so I’m just going to reserve my judgment for now ??

      • Indu says

        May 17, 2016 at 9:38 pm

It is undoubtedly a great and easy way to be in touch with friends and family. I just don’t like the idea of conversing in groups much there since it is hard to keep track! 🙂

  17. Michelle @ Giraffes Can Bake says

    May 16, 2016 at 8:41 am

Reconnecting with old friends is so lovely, and with the good ones you just slip right back into the friendship like you never spent any time apart don’t you! I’m so glad you’ve been able to catch up with your gold friends (love that saying haha). Can be a bit overwhelming all that catching up though haha!

I don’t have anything to bring to the party this week, moving house and lack of internet has given me zero time to write up a post. Planned to do it this weekend while I was visiting my mum but of course I forgot my recipe book!

I will be doing some mingling though, and hopefully have something to offer next week!

It’s not easy to pick features since many of the links are truly spectacular. But my cohosts help and between us we usually get it right ? Welcome to Fiesta Friday!
