Fiesta Friday #572

Spaghetti Sauce Soup, anyone?

Spaghetti Sauce Soup | FiestaFriday.net

One of the most useful ingredients to keep in your pantry is a jar of spaghetti sauce. It’s pretty impressive how many dishes you can create with it.

First off, you can serve it over spaghetti or other types of pasta, obviously. But what else can you do with it, you ask? And I answer: You can use it as a dipping sauce for bread, turn it into chili, or mix it with rice to make an Italian-style red rice. You know, like the Mexican red rice but with Italian flavors. Trust me, it’s really good!

But my best-kept-secret use for spaghetti sauce is to transform it into a soup. Simply add broth and vegetables, and you have a comforting dish. Sometimes, I also add meatballs to make a heartier soup that can be served as a complete meal.

While spaghetti sauce is considered a processed food which should be consumed in moderation for health reasons, it falls into the minimally processed category, so go ahead, buy those jars when they’re on sale and keep them in your pantry. You’ll be glad to have them when you want soup in a hurry.

And Now, This!

I always have a big can of either Snap-E-Tom or tomato / V-8 juice in the pantry that I regularly use as a base for soups ~ and there’s even low sodium for people who need to watch their salt intake. You don’t really need to thin it out much then (if you get that giant can and not too many people to serve). Never thought about pasta sauce though, so thanks for the tip! … If you don’t have GOCHUJANG, then you need some! It’s Korean red chili paste, and I don’t think it’s really that spicy. A big red container is less than $5 (Asian aisle at grocery store) and you’ll put it into chilies, soups, and other things ~ besides Asian foods (keeps quite a while in the fridge too). Happy 2025!

I’m about to use my “last” FRESH spaghetti sauce from the freezer (last year’s tomato crop) – always a sad moment in the winter. Dropping by from #ChasingMYLife and always happy to be here. I brought COUNTRY FRENCH CHICKEN GARLIC SOUP, ROAST CHICKEN with APRICOT HABANERO SAUCE and NEAPOLITAN CAKE for the party. Wishing you a WONDERFUL week ahead.
