Hi, good Fiesta Friday friends! Anyone has a special plan for the weekend? I do! Working on the blog, that’s my special plan. I hope it’ll rain so I won’t feel tempted to go outside and forget about the plan. Also, it’s been too hot over here for fall. Some rain might cool things a little.
This blog has been neglected for too long. No new recipes, no new photos featured on the home page, etc. Behind the scenes, a few technical issues are begging for some serious attention and some old plugins are in need of an update or replacement.
So, to get started on the plan, I’d like to ask you a few questions. Who among you are using Social Warfare plugin? If you are, you probably saw these messages on your dashboard:
As of June 30th, 2018, StumbleUpon will no longer exist as a sharing platform. Instead, they are moving in with Mix. While this is exciting for Mix, share counts will not be transferred, and Mix is not providing a share button or API. – Warfare Plugins Team
For those using New Share Counts, please take note: New Share Counts is no longer in service. You may update your Social Warfare settings to use the alternative Open Share Count to continue getting your tweet counts. To view your Tweet Count settings, go to Social Warfare > Social Identity > Tweet Count Registration. We are also working on an alternative option and updates to the code to prevent any possible disruptions in your service. – Warfare Plugins Team
I’m guessing they’ve been there since June/July (?) but because I’m blind I didn’t see them earlier. I really do need to start wearing my glasses!
Anyway, I just saw them, and I have absolutely no idea what they mean! Can someone please enlighten me?
Also, while we’re at it, I’d like to ask if you can recommend a recipe index plugin. A simple, easy to understand plugin if possible. I actually don’t use an index plugin at all and have been indexing my recipes manually. I know!! It totally shows how unprofessional it all looks.
So if you can help me, I’d be very much obliged. Thank you and stay cool, literally and figuratively.
Now, take a look at these yummies
“You guys, Kat is expecting a baby!! Go find out if it’s going to be a girl or boy by visiting her post. She had to cut into that cake to reveal and what a cool-looking cake that is. Absolutely gorgeous!” — Angie
“[This] looked like a hearty meal to warm up these cool Autumn nights. Probably a good meal for sports fans! The addition of mustard and cabbage to the ingredients was a new twist and the ease of making the recipe was very appealing.” — Catherine
“Timely information for Fall and Halloween. Very nice photos too.” — Becky
“Uh…what?! HAT dogs?! Sorting hats?! Harry Potter?! Of course! How clever! Now if only I can use a wand to teleport these through the monitor. Expecto hat dogs! No? Wingardium hat dogs! Still nothing! Guess I’ll have to make them.” — Angie

Sorry that I didn’t get back to you about being a cohost. I think December 14 would work for me!
Angie says
Ok, Dec 14 it is. I’ll be sending you the cohosting guidelines, probably closer to the date. Thanks!
Life Diet Health says
Hellooooo! I don’t suppose you’d like to work on my blog too seems though you’re making a weekend of it! Lol! 😛 You know the other week my whole website just completely disappeared due to a plug-in sending too much traffic!!! I’m afraid I can’t help much with the StumpleUpon/Warfare/Mix plug-in as I’ve not used any of those and I’ve discovered that a) some plug-ins aren’t compatible with others and b) some hosts don’t recommend certain plug-ins so it’s quite an individual thing! Sorry, that’s not much help but on the recipe index front I use (I think lol) visual recipe index plug-in which seems to be simple enough for me to work out! 😀 Oh, and I can help with something… co-hosting! 😛 At least that is more simple than sorting out my plug-ins! ps: It’s lovely that Judi is co-hosting again! 😀
Angie says
Who ever says blogging is just fun and play?! At times it feels like working, which is not so fun. I mean, I’d rather be playing ? I’ll check out visual recipe index, thanks for the recommendation. And yes, we can definitely use your help in cohosting. How about Oct 26, with the lovely Antonia @ Zoale.com? And yes!! Very excited that Judi has consented to cohosting again. She’s an excellent cohost! Always very thorough and thoughtful!
Of Goats and Greens says
Those Sorting Hat dogs look awesome! I don’t even have any kids planned to be around for the season, and so I am thinking of adapting this idea for the Kielbasa I have in my freezer… although the smaller dog size would be a great appetizer for any age. (Adult Harry Potter fan here…) At any rate, for me life has been busy as well; I’m working on making my Friday recipe post as I type… Also, I’ve never used any Stumbled Upon plugins… I basically stick with WordPress ones, so I can’t help there. I’ve likewise been indexing my recipes manually, but I’m fine with continuing to do so.
Angie says
You and I both! Another adult Potter fan here. I was one of those crazy people standing in line at midnight for the release of a new book in the series. Can’t wait for the next Fantastic Beasts movie to be out in November!! Indexing manually is kinda painful, though. As you can see I’m doing very badly at it. I’m going to try a few plugins to see if there’s one I like, and will share what I find. Unfortunately for WordPress.com bloggers, though, they’re not allowed to use plugins. Btw, you’re still up for cohosting on Nov 9, right?!
Of Goats and Greens says
Yes, Nov 9th is on my calendar! I’ll be there! (Or, here!)
Angie says
That’s great! Thanks!!
Ai @Ai made it for you says
Hi Angie!! I miss joining the fiesta… the features are making me hungry as always haha.
I finally posted after being gone from the blog for 10 months? I’m going to spend the weekend trying to figure out the game plan for how to continue my blogging while taking care of my baby??♀️
Angie says
Hi Ai! How have you been? And the baby, how is the little guy? Is he keeping you on your toes? He’s priority #1 of course. You blog when he’s taking a nap, that’s the only way 😀 Unfortunately, the naps will also become shorter and shorter. Okay, I don’t want to be discouraging, lol. Trust me, it’ll get easier and he’ll be more independent and leave you alone sometimes.

Hey Angie,
It’s the Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend and I’m hosting this year, so it’s going to be a busy weekend for me. As for the social sharing plugin, they all have their pros and cons. I was told by an SEO expert, Casey Markee that Social Warfare is still the best, but I know there is mix reviews about it. I have their upgrade version and I do love it. It’s lightweight and has some great SEO benefits to it.
Angie says
Wow you guys have your Thanksgiving so early. Do you also do the whole turkey thing? I don’t know how I’d manage if I had to do it this early. The weather is still so warm! So not conducive to roasting turkey. Thanks for letting me know you love Social Warfare. I’ll stick with it then, I trust you!
NancyC says
Wow-thanks so much for including the Memphis-Style BBQ Chili in your features this week! So nice to be included with such other great features!:)
Of Goats and Greens says
Oh, that BBQ looked SOOoo good!
Angie says
Hear, hear!
Angie says
I’ve been thinking of chili, a lot. So your recipe came just at the right time.
Jo Allison / Jo's Kitchen Larder says
Hi Angie, You don’t have to worry about the stumble upon as it is now simply redundant (which is a shame as it was pretty good for a bit of a boost of traffic when things went viral) and it’s replacement platform Mix doesn’t use the share button.
As far as Twitter is concerned if you would like to continue to have your Twitter shares counted you need to go to your plugin settings and under Social Identity tab you should see Tweet Count Registration. To be able to continue counting Twitter shares Social Warfare is now using third party share counting tools which you need to register for if you would like it to be activated on your account. Simply follow the prompts and you should be ok.
I hope this helps and good luck ahead of your busy weekend! Hope it all goes to plan. 🙂
Angie says
Thanks so much for the explanation, Jo. I fully understand now. It seems I don’t need to worry too much about it, which is a relief, phew. If it’s not one thing, it’s another with blogging. It’s good to be up to date, though 😀
Antonia says
Everything looks delicious this week, and that is such a sweet cake! Have an awesome weekend, Angie! 😀
Angie says
It’s such a beautiful cake, isn’t it? Have a great weekend, Antonia!
MarEliz says
Thank you for hosting.I brought our favorite family birthday cake. Have a great weekend.
Angie says
Family birthday cake? That sounds wonderful, MarEliz. Can’t wait to see it!
Monika Dabrowski says
Linking up late this week, I was going to publish my post but my dog ate all my muffins (6!) that I foolishly left on the coffee table so this morning I was baking again! The dog is fine, I don’t know how she managed to digest all these muffins with the paper cases! Sorry, can’t help you with Warfare, I use Shareoholic. happy to co-host Nov. 23.
Angie says
Omg, thank goodness she’s ok. Reminds me of the time Skye stole a grilled corn cob. It was a nightmare, we had to get an ultrasound etc. What a trooper you are, though, baking again. I would have given up and call for pizza delivery 😀 I’m putting you down for the Nov 23 fiesta. Thanks so much!
Deb says
I am so low tech – I wish I could provide any tech… I also still post recipes manually – so I’m curious to look at the suggestions others give you! Do you think I should look into the other plug ins you mention? Do they give you good info?
Angie says
Plugins allow you to add additional features or customizations to your blog beyond what your theme is capable of. Unfortunately, as far as I know, WordPress.com blogs are not allowed to use third party plugins, unless maybe they upgrade to business/VIP plan. That’s my understanding.
Helen at the Lazy Gastronome says
Thanks for hosting another great party – have a lovely week!

hi Angie
I am so hopelessly non technical so am sorry I can’t help you! I read some of the responses and am so impressed! I really need to get better with the blog functions, it is just a matter of time.
I am glad I made it to the party this week, thak you for having us all again and I finally have a little time to party! 🙂 x
Angie says
No worries, Petra. I did figure it out eventually. It’s just sometimes I get too lazy to figure things out. Eventually, given time, you and I both will become experts, I just know it 😀
Lathiya says
Happy Fall Angie, I even didn’t give a try to fix my Mix account..it been a long time..These days getting so busy…am not sure what i’m even doing. Hope I can make a schedule and go by it
