Cinco de Mayo can't come soon enough!! I'm ready for my passion fruit margarita and guacamole en molcajete. Wish I had a molcajete. I swear guacamole tastes better when made fresh in a molcajete. I went to the city last weekend looking for a molcajete and came back empty-handed. So sad… I guess I'll have to rely once again on Amazon. Or I can just go to Plaza Azteca and enjoy their excellent guacamole as much as I want! I haven't done much cooking or baking or anything in the kitchen, ... continue reading...

Fiesta Friday #534
Have you ever heard of the term “rewilding”? It refers to an effort or a movement if you want to call it that, to return your garden to a more natural or uncultivated state. It does seem to be gaining momentum or getting more popular. I've been encountering more and more articles advocating it. In principle, I agree with the idea of rewilding. You sure can’t rely on Mother Nature these days… or has it always been this way all along? That Mother Nature is unreliable? I had planned to have salad for dinner every day this week since it felt like summer at the start of the week. The fridge is fully stocked up with lettuce, chicory, endive, spinach, cucumbers, and tomatoes… no, not tomatoes. You don't put tomatoes in the fridge, do you? Anyway, just lots of fresh veggies. But yesterday my body just refused salad. My body needed soup. I ... continue reading...

So… since nobody wanted to take a stab at guessing the dish I posted last week, I’m posting it again. Also, because I'm really into it and still making it! What is it? Is it an empanada? A giant dumpling? Or is it something else? The answer is yes… yes, it's something else. It's a stuffed flatbread filled with this wild salad. Surely this should intrigue those who are into foraging edible weedy plants. I'm one of those. Except I’ve only foraged in my backyard so far. But I'd like to ... continue reading...
Fiesta Friday #531
Ah, it's springtime! The sun is shining, the landscape is waking up, and animals are coming out of hibernation. These picturesque scenes were taken at Central Park, NY, last weekend. Then I came home and it poured… and poured… and poured… By day #4 (or 5? Clearly, I’m brain-fogged from all the rain) of whole-day downpours, I was beginning to feel cross. This was not the spring break I was looking forward to! So when there was a break yesterday, I decided to get out of the house, even ... continue reading...
