It's been unusually warm this week, it went up into the 80s on Wednesday. It's also been very dry; I don’t think it has rained in over a month, and when it did, it was only a drizzle. Droughts are quite rare in New Jersey, especially ones this severe. A lot of dry leaves and thatch are accumulating on the lawn, so after work, I spend my time outside cleaning, raking, and watering. It’s quite a workout! So lunch is a simple affair. I find guacamole toasts to be the easiest and most ... continue reading...

Fiesta Friday #561
Did you all have a great Halloween? I hope you did! Mine was busy, but it wasn't too bad, considering. My husband was sick, so I had to manage Skye and dole out candy by myself. Luckily, Skye was relatively calm, and there weren't too many trick-or-treaters this year— I’m guessing around 50, which is pretty low for our development of 300+ houses. Halloween is just a week away, and I have yet to shop for treats and finalize the decorations. Alas, all of that will have to wait, as I'm heading out of town for what I hope will be a relaxing 3-day weekend. We'll see if I can actually unwind while I'm away from home. Today is one of those Fridays when I don’t have anything particularly exciting to share with you. Nothing dramatic has happened, everything is okay and life feels pretty much hunky-dory. In other words, it’s a bit boring and mundane. However, I did get poison ivy. Is it called an infection or poisoning? So, ... continue reading...
Fiesta Friday #558
I know most of you here are food enthusiasts, probably 99.9% of you. I can count the gardeners among us on the fingers of one hand, one of them being yours truly. That's why I rarely bring you gardening updates, but this time I just have to share this exciting news! Do you see the two green eggs growing on the tropical-looking vines up there? Those green eggs are passion fruits! My all-time favorite fruits for mixing into cocktails. I still can't believe I've managed to grow them in my ... continue reading...
