This recipe first appeared on my older blog TheNoviceGardener. Since then, I’ve made it several times, varying the ratios of meat and cheese, or using different kinds of cheese, etc.
I also tried many ways to make the baked version as good as the fried. I brushed them with oil before baking, heated the baking sheet before putting the wontons on it, etc.
In the end, I stand by this original version. And I still think the fried version wins out the baked version. So, do yourself a favor. Try this fried and with the exact ingredients!

- 8 oz. cream cheese
- 1 cooked chicken breast (about 2 cups), diced
- 1 cup diced ham
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- 3 cloves garlic, minced

- Now bring the two remaining corners to the center and pinch to seal. Seal all to form an “x”. (See how-to photos below)
