I’m finally back home, and I need to get reacquainted with my kitchen.
My kids, with the encouragement from their Oma (read: my mother), decided to rearrange things. I mean, things are more organized now, but I can’t help feeling discombobulated regardless.
Anyway, I’m not here to complain. I’m here to give you a report on the beach scenes in the UK. Specifically, in the Southwestern part of England.
My husband and I started at Bournemouth Beach, touted by several of the hotel staff to have soft golden sand and great sunset views. Unfortunately, we couldn’t even find a single parking spot. There were more cars than parking spaces. British drivers have the most creative ways of parking cars! I’m surprised they weren’t ticketed or towed.
After a quick consultation with the internet god aka Google, we decided to drive to neighboring beaches, first to Fisherman’s Walk Beach and later to Durley Chine Beach.
This time we found parking! Just one spot seemingly reserved for us, hurray! We were feeling peckish at this time, however, and decided to stop at Cafe Riva for a quick lunch first before venturing to the beach.
The food was fine, but nothing to write home about. Did you notice I ordered fish and chips once again? If this continues, I may eventually become an expert at finding the best fish & chips. So far, the best I’ve had is from the OXBO restaurant in Hilton Heathrow. Yup, an airport hotel restaurant. I will never again disparage airport hotel restaurants.
Anyway, back to the beaches.
I don’t know why UK beaches are not ranked higher in the world. Sure, they lack tropical island vibes, but I think they’re nice and clean. At Durley Chine Beach, I even saw a family foraging for blackberries. How fun is that!
This stretch of beaches is also very close to the Jurassic Coast where Durdle Door is located.
We didn’t hike to get there this time; it was getting too hot for me. This photo was taken when I was here in June. Doesn’t it look out of this world?! For this alone, I would recommend a trip to this area to anyone.
Alrighty, Fiesta Friends, that’s my report on my beach experience in Southwest UK. Right now I’m packing my overnighter again for a weekend excursion to Maryland. See you next week!

Looks like it was a wonderful trip! The beaches look absolutely beautiful! Welcome home.
As a Brit, your UK accounts made me smile! My husband laughs at me because I can’t seem to go anywhere without getting a ticket for a traffic or parking ‘offence’.
