With less than 2 weeks left before Christmas, I haven’t even started shopping for my list even though it’s pretty short.
As my kids, nephews, and nieces have grown up over the years, my Christmas list has become shorter. Unfortunately, it hasn’t made shopping for them any easier.
But I shouldn’t stress over it, right?! Didn’t someone once say It’s the thought that counts? Who is this wise person? I’d like to thank them.
Besides, they all just want gift cards nowadays, don’t they?! Maybe that’s what I’ll do this year — give them all gift cards and let them buy their own Christmas presents.
I’m busy enough as it is, baking cookies, starting with my all-time favorite, Compost Cookies.
Mine tend to vary from year to year based on what I have in my pantry. Isn’t that the whole idea behind compost cookies, anyway? You use leftover ingredients that you have on hand.
So in trying to use up some leftover sprinkle mix, I inadvertently created these monstrosities.
Honestly, they’re quite horrendous-looking. They taste fine, but as a wise person once said, We eat with our eyes first. So, sad to say, it’s unlikely that these cookies will be made again in my kitchen.
And now, It’s Features Time!

Thank you for featuring my Santa Claus Bread! It actually came out looking good (I did Easter bunnies once that looked like kittens). I make a bunch of cookie doughs and keep them in tupperware in the fridge, to scoop out & bake (also lots of icebox logs), since I also sell cookies on the on-line garage sales. So, yes, when I just have a little in a bunch of tupperwares, they all get mashed together to make “you’re not ever getting these again” cookies (I have casseroles like that too), but Compost Cookies are a much better name! A little drizzle glaze and sprinkles makes everything look good (also rolling the uncooked cookie balls in sugar before baking). ** Have a happy (though hectic) last few weeks ~ then on to a fantabulous New Year!

Oh, forgot to mention (in that previous wordy comment) ~ look at my Snowy White Buche. If nothing else, the BARK will become your new favorite decoration to put on everything! (non-bakers can put it on store-bought cupcakes & cakes too). I make all sorts of “buche” now (my traditional Thanksgiving pumpkin roll became one, and I do chocolate mint for St. Patrick’s Day) ~ my grandkids call them “Bark Cake”. You can do it with any type of chips or chocolate or melting wafers.
