I know most of you here are food enthusiasts, probably 99.9% of you. I can count the gardeners among us on the fingers of one hand, one of them being yours truly.
That’s why I rarely bring you gardening updates, but this time I just have to share this exciting news!
Do you see the two green eggs growing on the tropical-looking vines up there?
Those green eggs are passion fruits! My all-time favorite fruits for mixing into cocktails.
I still can’t believe I’ve managed to grow them in my definitely-not-tropical growing zone, in a pot, and kept indoors in the winter. I can’t wait for them to ripen.
There are even more flowers forming so there may be more fruits in the future, hurray!
Next week, I will update you on my potted jackfruit, annona, soursop, wax apple, guava… Nah, just kidding! They’re not doing anything so far. They just grow leaves, nothing else. That’s just a partial list, btw. I have many more plants! 😬
Now, let’s look at food!

How cool! Actually most of my friends are gardeners, with elaborate raised flower beds, etc. I’ve always been able to grow flowers, but not vegetables. It’s a joke to see if I get enough tomatoes on a bush to pay for the cost of a plant! But, I always check out the “sad, neglected” plants on sale at the grocery flower section and love to bring them back to life. My hibiscus actually had 3 flowers and looks super healthy (was about $1.50 and almost dead when I bought it). My herbs & begonias fried in North Texas during our triple digit heat (even with just morning exposure), but then the basil reseeded itself in the pot and looks super healthy ~ and the 2 begonias in pots are really pretty again too. Silly plants ~ don’t they know that winter is coming? ** Love your linky party!!

That sounds like fun, rescuing neglected plants 😄 Oh yeah, plants are definitely silly. My one lone lovage plant dropped hundreds of seeds and now I have baby lovage all over to weed! You only need one lovage for goodness’ sake!
