Fiesta Friday #489

The first Spanish food I recreated once I got home, rested enough, and generally was able to get my bearings, was the patatas bravas.

It was also incidentally the first Spanish meal I had in Madrid, and coincidentally the easiest to replicate.

Patatas Bravas are, of course, in a word, delicious. Fried potatoes smothered in slightly spicy paprika sauce/gravy… what’s not to like?!

However, mine didn’t exactly live up to its authentic counterpart below, from La Casa del Abuelo.

My potatoes were too brown and not crispy enough, and the Bravas sauce lacked a certain kick to it. So, more home-cooked patatas bravas are in order.

Luckily, this happens to be a potato-loving household so I don’t foresee any complaints about the inundation of the “brave potatoes”.

Okay, Fiesta Friends, off I go to do more experiments.

Now, Features!

Wok Shrimp with pasta and spinach

“Gosh, this one is so enticing! The pasta looks flatteringly unctuous, and the shrimp delectable. It’s definitely making me hungry!” — Angie

Colleen’s Famous Deviled Eggs

“I’m always amazed at Colleen’s deviled egg recipes. They always look perfect and delicious!” — Jhuls

Black Currant Hoisin Chicken

“Perfect timing! Having tasted fresh currants for the first time in Madrid, I’m now looking forward to incorporating them in my cooking.” — Angie

Smoked Refried Bean Dip

“I’ve always been a fan of refried beans, and this one looks so good!” — Jhuls

Who’s ready for Cinco de Mayo?! I am! 🙋🏻‍♀️ May I suggest celebrating it with this Pineapple Margarita Chicken Quesadilla? You gotta make that Pineapple Margarita first, though. Coz that’s the marinade for the chicken! As if I need to twist any arms. 🤣 The more margarita, the merrier, says people everywhere. 🍸🥳 Link in bio!
